Wine is one of the oldest alcoholic beverages in the world, with a fascinating history dating back more than 8,000 years. The origins of wine production can be traced to the Caucasus region, which stretches across present-day Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Here, wild grapes were picked and fermented in earthenware jars to create a kind of primitive wine.

Over time, the art of wine production spread throughout the Mediterranean world, including Greece, Italy and France. The Greeks saw wine as a gift from the gods and used it in religious ceremonies and feasts. Romans were also big fans of wine and introduced it throughout Europe during their conquests.

In the Middle Ages, wine became an integral part of European culture and economy. Monasteries became important producers of wine and improved quality through experimentation and new technologies. During the Renaissance, wine became even more popular and new wine regions emerged in Europe, such as Bordeaux , Burgundy and the Douro Valley in Portugal. In modern times, wine has found its place in the global economy. Wine is produced all over the world, from California to Australia to South Africa.
